Business that Supports Missions

Our History

Global Partnership for Telehealth (GPT) began as Georgia’s statewide, telehealth network in 2004 with the encouragement and support of the “then” State Insurance Commissioner, John Oxendine.  Commissioner Oxendine had a vision for a single telehealth network providing the means to improve access to healthcare to underserved and poor communities.  In 2007, following a grant funded, 3-year start-up and network build-out period, the 501(c)3, non-profit organization, GPT, was formed to carry on the vision.  GPT has grown into an expansive telehealth network that serves as the telehealth platform, distance learning and support for clinical and nonclinical sites in 10 US states and several international mission projects.  Sites include small & large health systems, clinical offices, skilled nursing facilities, charitable clinics, public schools, universities, corrections, public health departments, and orphanages.

GPT’s mission is to harness the power of technology so that all have access to health care and critical health education.  GPT leverages telehealth technologies to address disparities in access to healthcare services, health education, and health outcomes.

Our Organization

As one of the largest nonprofit telehealth networks in the country, GPT is unique as a telehealth company in that it operates as a not-for-profit, independent corporation under the oversight of a board of directors and is not owned by an agency or authority.  The GPT Board of Directors consist of a group of volunteer physicians and business leaders who champion telehealth and support the mission to reach the underserved and disadvantaged.

Principal Activities

  1. Provide high-quality, low-cost telehealth hardware and software solutions to support the delivery of virtual care in most any setting with an emphasis of supporting under-resourced communities. GPT’s telehealth video platform, Pathways, is a secure, web-based, telehealth consultation software built using 14+ years of clinical partner feedback to develop one of the most intuitive tools for telehealth implementers.
  2. To identify areas of health care need, then develop telehealth solutions, programs and/or educational resources to address that need.
  3. To partner with other like-minded entities or individuals to leverage telehealth technologies and distant learning modalities to produce positive health care outcomes.
  4. To focus on rural communities and work with local leaders to determine how telehealth can bring relief, support or compliment the local healthcare delivery system: schools, clinics, nursing homes, hospitals/clinics, county or city jails, etc.

Major Accomplishments

  1. GPT has not only survived but thrived as a mission-minded, nonprofit, in the very competitive and challenging telehealth market place.
  2. GPT successfully launched one of the first and most successful school-based telehealth programs in the country. Currently there are 185+ schools across GA, AL, FL & TN in the network with the capacity to provide virtual clinical services to school children.
  3. In partnership with the Southeastern Telehealth Resource Center, GPT launched Toddler Tracks, Pathways to Tackling Autism on World Autism Day, April 2, 2021. A program to connect clinicians, parents and caregivers of children between 12-36 months with symptoms of autism to free online training resources designed to address this critical developmental period, in order to overcome access barriers, rewire young pliable brains, and potentially reverse symptoms for a lifetime.
  4. GPT has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) as a competent and expert source of telehealth implementation expertise, having been awarded the privilege to serve as the Southeastern TeleHealth Resource Center (SETRC) since 2010.  SETRC’s mission is to provide an applied approach to telehealth education & technical assistance services to health care providers, organizations and the general public in the region.
